SIP-panel construction in Hungary has crossed over the last five years from "experimental" to "standard practice". This guide gathers in one place every question a client typically asks — from first consultation to handover.
A SIP (Structural Insulated Panel) is a sandwich: a closed-cell insulating core (PUR or graphite-EPS) bonded between two OSB-3 structural facings. The resulting element is both load-bearing and insulating — one layer doing two jobs.
The panels are manufactured under factory conditions: the core is pressed between the facings, bonded at controlled humidity and temperature, and the dimensions are CNC-cut from CAD drawings. Precise pieces arrive on site — no field cutting, no improvised joints.

The critical layers are 4 (the insulating core — delivers the U-value) and 5 (the OSB-3 interior facing — delivers the airtightness). Compromise on either and the near-passive-house performance evaporates.
For a 120 m² SIP home with proper orientation:
Total turnkey time: 8–9 months from first consultation, vs. 14–18 months for a brick build. Shell stands in 8–12 weeks.
